Oklahoma Public Health Branch held Organization Day at Zoo

By Ms. Erin Perez (Southern Regional Medical Command)November 7, 2016

The Oklahoma Branch of Public Health Activity -- Hood held their annual organizational day at the Oklahoma City Zoo recently.

Organization day is a day when Soldiers, civilians and family members can get together and enjoy each other's company while participating in recreational activities. It promotes good morale and esprit de corps, and is a standard practice throughout the Army.

In addition to the Oklahoma Branch family enjoying the zoo exhibits, Dr. Heather Cameron, DVM, and the veterinary surgeon at Tinker Air Force Base was able to arrange a behind the scenes tour of the hoof stock exhibit and the veterinary clinic. The hoof stock tour included up-close inspections of zebras, okabi and wild hogs, and the clinic tour was of particular interest to the veterinarians and veterinary assistants who attended.

Army Public Health is home to the only uniformed veterinarians and veterinary assistants in the DoD. They have a broad mission that includes food safety and security, animal care, veterinary public health, and research and development, and they are stationed at every military installation around the world.

Public Health Activity-Hood and the Oklahoma Branch are subordinates units of the Public Health Region -- Central, under Regional Health Command -- Central.
