REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. -- U.S. Army Materiel Command officials are now calling for nominations for the 2016 Army's Greatest Innovation Awards.
AMC's Chief Technology Officer Patrick O'Neill said the Maj. Gen. Harold J. Greene Award for Innovation is an opportunity to recognize Army Soldiers and civilians whose technological and business process improvements ultimately benefit the command's number one customer: the Soldier.
"Technical vision begins with our people, and I'm happy to see this program reward their efforts," O'Neill said. "Some of our most dedicated members are those who support the battle from research labs."
The award consists of three categories: military individual, civilian individual and group. The program is managed by the U.S. Army Materiel Command under the lead of its chief technology officer and awards a first-place winner in each category each spring.
The fiscal year 2015 winners of the award included programs that enhanced weapons, improved Soldier protection and upgraded fielded systems.
"The fiscal year 2015 winners were a true representation of the Army-wide effort to provide the best, most- effective, technologies and process improvements to our Soldiers," O'Neill said. "We look forward to a strong response across the Army to the 2016 award program."
The program's award was named in honor of the late Maj. Gen. Harold J. Greene, who served in several leadership positions in Army research, science, technology, and acquisition fields before he was killed in 2014 in Afghanistan.
Nominations for innovative technologies are due by Jan. 15, 2017, for innovations that were first fielded, adopted and/or implemented during fiscal year 2016. Winners will be announced in March 2017 at the Association of the United States Army's Global Force Symposium in Huntsville, Alabama.
