On Sept. 11, 2001, terror struck New York City, resulting in the destruction of the twin towers of the World Trade Center, killing about 3,000 people and injuring more than 6,000 people. South Post Chapel hosted the 9/11 Patriot Day of Remembrance service ceremony, Sept. 9, at Yongsan Garrison South Post Chapel to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the tragedy under the theme, "Never Forget." Chaplains, Soldiers and civilians attended to honor the victims and those who lost a loved one, as well as the brave heroes who lost their lives while trying to save others.

The service was somber and poignant, featuring videos of the terrible tragedy. The chapel fell silent while the sounds of 9/11 radio transmissions, media coverage and testimonials filled the air. Later, a message appeared on the screen: "Nurture the living, care for the wounded, and honor the dead."

Lt. Col. Kim Young, U.S. Army Garrison Chaplain, welcomed the attendees to the 9/11 ceremony. "On that day, 2997 people from over 9 different countries were killed in a senseless act of terrorism. As you observe Patriot Day 2016, we ask you to pay tribute to those who lost on Sept. 11 and those who have lost since then. We must never forget their sacrifices," he said.

America will never forget, nor will we let our children forget.
