Lieutenant Colonel John Gaivin was born in Salem, Massachusetts. In 1991, his military career began as a Private and he attended Basic Training at Fort Jackson, SC and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Sam Houston, TX.As an Enlisted Soldier, he served with 3rd Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, Fort Ord, CA, A Company, 168th Area Medical Support Battalion, Camp Red Cloud, Korea, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, TX, Keller Army Community Hospital, West Point, NY, and The United States Armor Center and School, Fort Knox, KY. In 1999, he went on to Officer Candidate School, where he was then Commissioned to a Second Lieutenant in the Quartermaster Corps.
