FORT HUACHUCA, Arizona - A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the installation's

new multi-use path is scheduled to take place 9 a.m., today, on

the path at the corner of Winrow Ave. and Brainard Rd.

Last June, our Directorate of Public Works' Engineering Division developed

the idea for a multi-use path to support the installation Healthy Work Force

Initiative and to tie in with Sierra Vista's network of multi-use paths.

DPW then worked with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to refine the project

and get it contracted. The Corps of Engineers awarded the contract last

September to West Point Contractors, Inc. of Tucson, Arizona. The multi-use

path project cost nearly $500,000.

On Saturday, beginning at 8 a.m. at the Thunder Mountain Activity Centre,

community members and well-behaved dogs are invited to join us for a

Multi-Use Path Celebration. The tobacco-free event features a 5K and 10K fun

bike/walk/skate/run and a 21-mile bike ride to the West Gate. Additionally,

the MI Corps Rock Band will perform, a bounce house and bike rodeo are

available for kids and various community organization will man booths

providing literature to promote healthy habits. Irwin Pool will be open for

those who want to cool off.
