JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. - There are a few new knights in Seattle today, to include I Corps Command Sgt. Maj. Michael Grinston.
He was knighted at the 67th annual Seattle Seafair Torchlight parade, July 30, alongside Seattle native film and television star Anna Farris.
Farris was this year's Seafair parade grand marshal. Accompanied by husband Chris Pratt, actor and Lake Stevens, Washington native, and their three year old son, Jack, she led some 117 entries in the 2016 parade.
Service members here and across the state of Washington had a chance to meet Seattle's new "countess of comedy" at the Seattle Center Armory prior to the start of the parade.
Representing I Corps and JBLM was the 56th Army Band, 7th Infantry Division's 1-2 Stryker Brigade Combat Team, a 56 state and territorial flag formation, members of the I Corps color guard, and Grinston, who led the troops from a white Corvette, courtesy of the event organizers.
"It's an honor to represent our command and be a part of the parade, and it's a chance to be a part of our community," said Grinston. "It also demonstrates our command's respect and confidence in the NCO Corps. I see this as an opportunity for all of the JBLM service members who are involved, from the color guard to the Strykers. It gives us a chance to show the community this is your Army."
I Corps and JBLM regularly partner with Seattle and the surrounding cities to establish a positive relationship with the communities' service members and their families live. It is also a way of connecting the American public to its military.
"Seafair is a way to get to know the community and the region," said Grinston. It lets our service members and families enjoy their time the [Pacific Northwest] and experience something that has been a part of the area for the past 67 years."
