PICATINNY ARSENAL, N.J. -- Project Manager Soldier Weapons said good-bye to Lt. Col. Paul E. Alessio, its Product Manager Crew Served Weapons for the past three years, during a change-of-charter ceremony held on June 28 in Picatinny Arsenal's Lindner Conference Center.

More than 125 guests and employees attended the mid-morning event. PM SW also welcomed Lt. Col Lloyd Beal III as the new PM CSW.

Alessio passed a framed copy of the official PM CSW charter to Beal during the traditional military ceremony, thus relinquishing his authority and responsibilities for the organization to his successor.

Col. Brian C. Stehle, Project Manager Soldier Weapons, presided over the ceremony.

Among the special guests in attendance were Alessio's father, Paul, his aunt and uncle, Terry and Bruce Ketler, Program Executive Officer Soldier Brig. Gen. Brian Cummings and Deputy Program Executive Officer Soldier Tim Goddette.

Cummings honored Alessio for his contributions and accomplishments as PM CSW by awarding him the Army's Meritorious Service Medal.

He praised Alessio for his leadership and management of the organization and its portfolio.

"Thank you for what you have done in support of PEO Soldier and PM SW during the past three years," Cummings said.

Stehle also praised Alessio for his achievements, particularly those that occurred after Stehle's arrival in October 2015.

When his turn to speak came, Alessio told the audience that he was extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to lead PM CSW and its outstanding workforce.

"Picatinny will always be my home," he told the gathering.

Beal, who previously worked as executive officer to deputy assistant secretary of the Army for procurement, said he was looking forward to joining the PM SW/PM CSW team.

After the ceremony, most attendees spent a few minutes wishing Alessio good luck in his new assignment at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, and welcoming Beal to Picatinny and PM SW.

PM SW ensures that Soldiers on the battlefield have overmatch capabilities in individual and crew served weapons. PM CSW is responsible for current and future light and heavy machine guns, grenade launchers, related target acquisition/fire control products, and remote weapons systems.
