WEST POINT, N.Y. (June 11, 2016) -- The Team Army archery team is preparing for the 2016 Department of Defense Warrior Games being held at the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York June 15-21.

Approximately 250 athletes representing the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Special Operations Command and the United Kingdom Armed Forces will compete for gold, silver and bronze in each of eight sports: archery, cycling, field, sitting volleyball, shooting, swimming, track and wheelchair basketball.

The Warrior Games archery competition is a combined sport with both men and women competing equally. Compound Open, Recurve Open, Team Compound and Team Recurve are the four events in the competition.

The top eight athletes in each individual event will move on to the medal round.

Fourteen Team Army Soldiers will compete in the four events.

"I think we have a great team," said Dan Govier, the archery head coach. "The Army has always come to play. I think this will be a really good year."

"They're one of the best teams out there," added Govier. They are an impressive team."

"With some of their injuries, it's sometimes hard to maintain follow through, but we're adapting the way we teach and coach to their injuries."

Govier competed on the Marine Corps archery team in previous Warrior Games and is a three-time Warrior Games gold-medalist.
