Ustka, Poland -- Soldiers from the 10th Army Air and Missile Defense Command along with the 174th National Guard Brigade from Ohio facilitated a multinational air defense forum June 5 with NATO allies from Poland's 3rd Surface to Air Missile Brigade to enhance interoperability.

Soldiers from the 10th AAMDC and the 174th Brigade met with members of the Polish 3rd SAM Brigade to familiarize each other on each nation's unique air defense platforms. The goal was to coordinate tactics, techniques, and procedures in order to integrate Poland's SA-3 Goa with the American's Patriot Enhanced System and Avenger System for the upcoming multinational air defense training events at exercise Anakonda 16.

"The main goal here is a shared understanding of the capabilities and limitations of each of these weapon platforms." explained Maj. Louis Longhenry, the 174th Brigade's Lead Plans Officer, "This knowledge along with a strong working relationship is key to interoperability."

The members of the Polish 3rd SAM Brigade were greeted warmly, and everyone hosting the event ensured an atmosphere of comraderie and mutual respect. As the day wore on, bonds were formed between fellow professionals and it was readily apparent that a shared understanding of how to best integrate all of their air defense platforms was had by all.

"What has been really great is the coordination between the National Guard, active duty Soldiers, and the Polish," stated Maj. Longhenry, "everyone has brought something to the table for this collaboration."

As events draw to a close, both nations now stand ready and look forward excitedly to the upcoming multinational air defense training events of exercise Anakonda 16.
