FORT BRAGG, N.C.--The Womack Army Medical Center Junior Officer Council held a blood drive at the Fort Bragg Blood Donor Center, here, May 19.
The group set the highest record of 96 people during the JOC Blood Drive. At FBBDC, one unit of blood creates two blood products; the amount of products produced was 192. Potential lives saved totaled up to 288 people.
The mission of the JOC is for company grade officers (2Lt. - Capt.) to take advantage of professional leader development, resource information for various career paths and community involvement. The JOC includes all professions that fall under WAMC.
"JOC really involves all company grade officers throughout the WAMC foot print. The JOC is like the student government association. We have the typical roles of a council, president, vice president, etc. Since January, we have done a total revitalization of the JOC," said Capt. Austin Otocki, WAMC JOC president and current executive officer for Troop Battalion.
"Working with Mr. Roni Paul, a WAMC Team member, and his fraternity, we wanted to get as much involvement as possible," he said. "We as JOC wanted to shed some light on why we need to donate."
The FBBDC was very pleased with the outcome of the event.
"One of our primary missions as Fort Bragg Blood Donor Center is theater operations, said Capt. Joshua Kuper, Fort Bragg Blood Donor Center, chief of blood services. "The blood that we collect here today will be sent downrange four days from right now. According to the World Health Organization blood loss is the number one cause of death."
