FORT SILL, Okla. -- It was a parent's paradise this weekend with the Fort Sill post-wide yard sale May 7.

Children's clothes and toys were in abundance as different departments and individual families set up tables to offer their wares for sale at their homes or other locations.

Some post-wide yard sales in the past have been centrally located, usually near Building 4700, but this year it seemed more like an Easter egg hunt. The central yard sale seems to be the preferred option of many of the people I encountered. While it does create a little more work for the sellers, it offers more traffic and an easier shopping experience for the buyer.

With all that said, the post yard sale as a whole went over pretty well. There were treasures and there was junk and everything in between. In other words, it seemed to be your typical yard sale event. Even I found a few things of interest for myself, and picked them up at bargain prices.

The children's clothes and toys were clean, well cared for and a great bargain for those in need of such things. The hospitality at each location was beyond expectations. The participants really went out of their way to make you feel welcomed. Most places had set prices with a "make an offer" announced upon your arrival. Others set up for donations only, giving the shopper the opportunity to get what they wanted at a price they felt comfortable with.

Weather conditions were ripe for such an event. Short sleeves and shorts were the attire of choice by almost every patron, and the wind kept itself in check. All in all, it was a great day for bargain hunters.
