The 21st Signal Brigade held its 2016 Best Warrior Competition April 4--8 for Noncommissioned Officers and Soldiers. The mission was to select the Brigade's best qualified Noncommissioned Officer and Soldier to represent at the 7th Signal Command (Theater) competition. The competitors were assessed on their scope and depth of knowledge on all warrior tasks and drills, as well as other subject matter areas.
The event kicked off April 5 with an Army Physical Fitness Test, followed by a two-task mystery event, and ended with the water survival event at the Fort Detrick indoor pool. On April 6, the competitors were taken to Fort Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania, where they qualified with an M16A2 rifle and M9 pistol. Their day ended with a 12-mile ruck march while wearing body armor and a 35-pound ruck sack.
On day three, they conducted Army Warrior Training scenarios, day/night land navigation and a written exam/essay at Fort Meade, Maryland.
The competition wrapped up April 8 when each Service Member appeared before an NCO and Soldier of the Year Best Warrior Competition Board. Competitors were required to know and recite: The Warrior Ethos, the Soldier's Creed, the Creed of the Noncommissioned Officer, the Signal Corps March and the Army Song. The final day concluded with a ceremony congratulating all supporting staff, participants and winners.
The winners for the 2016 21st Signal Brigade Best Warrior Competition were Sgt. Jeffery Lamb from the 114th Signal Battalion, 21st Signal Brigade and Spc. Paul Meredith from the 21st Signal Brigade.
