On May 17, 1949, 11 inches of rain fell on the Clear Fork of the Trinity River in Fort Worth. The water broke through the levees and spilled into the city's commercial and residential districts. April 16, 1950 the Fort Worth District was established.
Today, the Fort Worth District is responsible for water resource development in two-thirds of Texas, and military design and construction in Texas and parts of Louisiana, New Mexico. For the last 66 years, the District has played a vital role in providing innovative engineering solutions, delivering economic and environmental benefits in the state of Texas and other locations across the nation and the world.
