Command Sgt. Maj. Michael L. Berry was born in Fort Jackson, S.C. He entered the U.S. Army in July, 1992. He received Basic Training at Fort Benning, Ga., and was then trained as an infantryman there during Advanced Individual Training.

Berry's positions and assignments include: Battalion Command Sergeant Major, 3rd Battalion, 41st Infantry Regiment, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, Fort Bliss, Texas; Operations Sergeant Major, 2nd Battalion, 2nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Knox, Ky.; Foreign Security Forces Transition Team (FSFTT) Operations Sergeant, Fort Polk, La.; First Sergeant, U.S. Army Reconnaissance and Surveillance Leaders Course (RSLC), Fort Benning, Ga.; Ranger Instructor, Fort Benning, Ga.; Platoon Sergeant, 3rd Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.; Drill Sergeant, Fort Sill, Okla.; Long Range Surveillance Team Leader, Company F, 51st Infantry Long Range Surveillance Company (LRSC), 18th Airborne Corps, Fort Bragg, N.C.; Squad Leader, 4th Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, Fort Drum, N.Y.; Squad Leader, 1st Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.

He is a member of the prestigious Sergeant Audie Murphy Club.

Command Sgt. Maj. Command Sgt. Maj. Berry's civilian education includes a bachelor of science degree in Multidisciplinary Studies from Liberty University, and associate degrees in Applied Science, and Business Administration Management, from Georgia Military College.
