REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. -- Army Contracting Command symbolically opened its new headquarters in a ceremony here Jan. 7.

Maj. Gen. James E. Simpson, commanding general, ACC, hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to formally open building 4505, the new ACC headquarters building. More than 300 senior leaders and local dignitaries were on hand to tour the building and participate in the ceremony.

Gen. Dennis L. Via, commander, Army Materiel Command, said the ceremony was a great way to begin 2016.

"I was on that field at the former AMC headquarters at Fort Belvoir (Virginia) eight years ago next month when the command was first established," Via remembered.

During his remarks he discussed the importance of the ACC mission.

"Our warfighters couldn't perform their missions without the great work that you do each and every day," he said.

"A straight line can be drawn from what you'll do inside of this building to the individual Soldier in the field that's deployed today. In many cases, that straight line is a lifeline, because the contracts that you handle provide the essential goods and services that our men and women cannot do without."

Simpson said it is "certainly a great day for the Army Contracting Command to finally have a permanent headquarters building.

He said the command is excited to be moving into the 100,000 square feet of newly renovated workspace. New video-teleconference capabilities in the new headquarters were essential for effective command and control of the global contracting force, he said.

According to Kevin Burleson, ACC G-4 facilities engineer, renovations of the World War II era building cost $17.7 million and includes work spaces for more than 380 people, 17 VTC suites and a basement that will provide storm protection. The ACC staff will begin a phased move in to the new building in approximately two weeks.

Since its creation ACC has occupied several temporary headquarters beginning at Fort Belvoir. Currently occupying leased space off of the arsenal, the move will be ACC's third move as a headquarters.

The new ACC headquarters location is directly across Martin Road from AMC headquarters. ACC is an AMC subordinate command and delivers contracting solutions in order to support the Army and unified land operations anytime and anywhere.
