Multiple events to create traffic delays on, near JBM-HH Oct. 23-24

1. Fort Myer traffic delays, parking lot closures expected Oct. 23

There are anticipated parking lot closures throughout the Fort Myer portion of Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall beginning Thursday, Oct. 22, and lasting through the evening of Friday, Oct. 23, in support of an Army Farewell Tribute to John McHugh, the 21st Secretary of the United States Army. The ceremony begins at 3 p.m., Friday, on Summerall Field, but travelers should allow extra travel time beginning at noon Friday.

Although specific parking lot closures are not available as of Wednesday, Oct. 21, those parking on Fort Myer are advised to avoid parking in areas that are reserved with orange traffic cones or otherwise marked as reserved.

2. Special event at Cody CDC to impact traffic Oct. 23

Due to a special event Friday, Oct. 23 near the Cody Child Development Center, Fort Myer, from 3 to 5:30 p.m., parking will be slightly strained and traffic slower than usual in the parking lots and roadways between the Fort Myer Commissary, the Andrew Rader U.S. Army Health Clinic and the Cody CDC. The event, the Harvest Festival, will include horse-drawn hayrides which may slow traffic along Patton Drive and MacArthur Circle.

Drivers are asked to remain vigilant, drive slowly and to stay alert for pedestrians (children will be present) in the lots and streets between the Commissary, the Andrew S. Rader U.S. Army Health Clinic and the Cody Child Development Center. For more information, call 703-696-3101.

3. Oct. 25 Marine Corps Marathon to bring road, parking closures

This weekend marks the running of the 40th Marine Corps Marathon. The People's Marathon will begin Sunday, Oct. 25 along Route 110 and end at the Marine Corps War Memorial. Road closures throughout Arlington, Va., and Washington, D.C., can be found at: http://goo.gl/pjgj5x.

Parking is available on Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall (in the Tri-Services parking area only) to Department of Defense ID card holders. In addition, in a section of the Tri-Services parking lot, on a first-come-first-served basis, the Marine Corps Marathon will have a shuttle to transport participants to the race.

Please do not park in the Fort Myer Officers Club parking lot as there are other scheduled events at the club.

Parking lots near Wright Gate will be restricted to Public Works personnel for emergencies and race staff with official parking permits from Emergency Services. Lot closures will be in effect at 10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24 until 4 p.m. Oct. 25.

Wright Gate will be closed to vehicle traffic Oct. 25 from 3 a.m. to 4 p.m. Parking near Wright Gate will be restricted until 4 p.m. Also, Highway 110 will be closed from I-66 to Route 1 until 4 p.m.
