Army Field Support Battalion to Army Field Support Battalion-Africa

TUSCANY, Italy - A new era began in the heart of Tuscany, Italy. The Army Field Support Battalion-Italy under the command of Lt.Col. Joe Greenlee, officially re-designated to Army Field Support Battalion-Africa, October 1, 2015. Col. Todd Bertulis, Commander, 405th Army Field Support Brigade stated that, "The Soldiers, Department of Army civilians, and Italian employees of the Army Field Support Battalion have served here for over 60 years executing the mission of the Army Materiel Command and the Army Sustainment Command delivering readiness to warfighters around the globe on time, every time."

The Depot at Camp Darby has been in existence since 1951. It was originally constructed to support the United States Forces in Austria during the occupation in 1951-1952. In 1954-1955 the depot became a part of the United States Army Europe Depot system.

Today's ceremony marks a new chapter in this great Battalion's history which South of the Alps and highlights Army Materiel Command's commitment to being the premier provider of readiness to Africa. The 405th Army Field Support Brigade is truly excited to formally announce our relationship and role with the Army Field Support Battalion-Africa and newly formed Logistics Support Team-Africa.

The Army Field Support Battalion receives, maintains, stores, and issues Army Prepositioned Stocks; links national logistics capabilities and provides logistics solutions to Army units "South of the Alps", especially 173rd Airborne Combat Brigade, U.S. Army Africa, and other strategic partners to support geographic combatant commander priorities and to enable readiness.

Maj. Gen. Kevin O'Connell, Commanding General, Army Sustainment Command, and SES Carl Cartwright, Support Operations, Rock Island Arsenal, Illinois were on hand for the ceremony.

Ultimately, the Army Field Support Battalion-Africa will be the portal to the Army Materiel Command enterprise, helping to ensure our Soldiers execute missions throughout the Continent with trust in their equipment. Bertulis stated that, "We are proud to be a part of a great team of teams; we are ready; and we look forward to delivering readiness solutions to the United States Army Africa Command."
