FORT BENNING, Ga., (Sept. 23, 2015) -- In a galaxy not so far, far away, Springer Theatre Academy classes appeal to its students in a fresh way.
New Springer Theatre Academy director, Sally Baker, offers a different take on foundational drama classes such as acting and improvisation. Instead of a regular acting class, students can choose well-known stories like "Star Wars," "The Avengers" or "Dungeons and Dragons" to explore as part of the curriculum.
Students will envision and create with the well-known worlds portrayed in movies and comic books.
On Saturday, Sept. 19, the Springer Theatre Academy will launch this new program aimed at developing the next generation of stage, TV and film performers.
"What we do here at the Springer Theatre Academy is create," said Baker. "We play with stories and how to best tell those stories. Why not create new stories within worlds we love like 'Star Wars' and 'The Avengers'?"
Other classes offered include a Showstoppers Musical Theatre, Stilt Walking, Directing and Treasure Trunk Theatre. Classes are geared toward students 3 years and older.
"This is a relaxed, fun way for the creative novice to get involved in drama," Baker said. "But it's also a fresh, dynamic approach for more experienced young performers, too. The main thing is for a young entertainer to bring a sense of play and make bold choices. We'll do the rest."
Classes take place on Saturdays, Sept. 19 -- Oct. 10. Call 706-324-1100 or go to springeroperahouse.org for more information or to register for classes.
