Great news! BG Stephen E. Farmen, Commanding General Joint Munitions Command, visited Radford Army Ammunition Plant this past week and presented the Army Superior Unit Award to the Radford Army Ammunition Plant staff.

BG Farmen spent the day with Team Radford and encouraged continued outstanding performance of this great unit. "My challenge to you is to continue to sustain practices and past achievements that led to this recognition, while at the same time to never be satisfied that we have accomplished all that we can in support of our mission. This is the highest peacetime award you can get and this staff lives up to its legacy and performed as expected."

The citation reads: During the period 1 October 2011 to 30 September 2012, the United States Army Joint Munitions Command and the cited units displayed exceptionally meritorious service in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. The units supplied America's Warfighters with the right ammunition at the right place, on time every time and went above and beyond expectation. The success of the mission was accomplished by the management at Joint Munitions Commands Headquarters, Rock Island, Illinois, through a network of ammunition installations accomplishing ammunition production, storage, supply maintenance, demilitarization and training. The units' personnel around the Nation were untiring in their dynamic efforts to continually improve support to the Warfighter and the information requirements of their leadership. Through their accomplishments the units enabled success throughout the missions of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation New Dawn in Afghanistan and Iraq and demonstrated an unfailing determination to stand in support of those in harm's way. The United States Army Joint Munitions Commands performance of duty is in keeping with the finest traditions of military service and reflects distinct credit upon themselves, the cited units and the United States Army.

Radford Army Ammunition Plant (RFAAP) was recognized for their numerous "Best Practices" and instituted them across Joint Munitions Command.

Although the current RFAAP Commander Lt. Col. Alicia Masson was not the Commander during the time period the post was recognized, she still upholds the same standards that were in place leading up to 2012.

Masson spoke words of appreciation and encouragement to the personnel at the award presentation. "I am honored to serve as your commander today. The Army Superior Unit Award is given to organizations that display outstanding meritorious performance with a difficult and/or challenging mission carried out under extraordinary circumstances. Our unit has been recognized by the efforts of past leaders and many of you still here today," said Masson. This is huge as it recognizes the work and contributions of each and every one of you, as well as the 1700 plus people who come to work here every day and support our warfighters. Remember, if there is a warfighter shooting it, it started at Radford. You are a part of something much bigger than this place, keep up the good work. Ammo Strong!"

"Team Radford provides America's Warfighters with superior performing propellants, energetics and munitions to enable engagement and destruction of targets with total confidence,' concluded Masson.
