Effective Sept. 9, U.S. Army Europe is authorized to issue Status of Forces Agreement credentials and command sponsorship authorizations to eligible same-sex spouses assigned to or on orders to Germany.

The change is in accordance with USAREUR Message #1509028.

Military and civilian personnel in same-sex marriages are now authorized to receive the same overseas benefits, entitlements and allowances in Germany as those currently authorized to spouses of military and civilian personnel in opposite-sex marriages.

Examples of such benefits include family travel, command sponsorship, SOFA ID, government controlled quarters, off-post housing and other associated individual logistical support benefits as described in AER 600-700.

For more information, see USAREUR Message #1509028 for points of contact, or contact your servicing military or civilian personnel office.
