FORT BENNING, Ga., (Sept. 9, 2015) -- 1st Battalion, 50th Infantry Regiment, invites 100 Soldiers of all ranks to compete in the Maneuver Center of Excellence Invitational Marksmanship three-day competition Sept. 22-24 at the Malone Range Complex.

"It's a good challenge for marksmen," said Sgt. 1st Class Howard Benjamin, senior drill sergeant, B Company, 1st Bn. 50th Inf. Regt.

To level the playing field, the unit will supply Soldiers with an M4 rifle and Soldiers will use the same rifle throughout the competition.

The event consists of eight events on Malone 15, 16 and 17 where Soldiers will earn points to determine who can best demonstrate the fundamentals of marksmanship. The events are based off the one station unit training program of instruction, Benjamin said.

On Sept. 22, competitors will be in-processed and hear briefs.

On Day 1 of the competition, Sept. 23, Soldiers will complete the first four events using their back-up iron sights and will include zeroing, an M4 qualification, firing at a moving target and a barrier shoot. All events but zeroing will be graded.

On Sept. 24 - Day 2 - using the same M4, the Soldiers tasks are a stress shoot using back-up iron sites and then using the M68 close combat optic, conduct a close quarters marksmanship event, zeroing and qualification.

At the end of Day 2, following all events, Soldiers will be awarded for top three marksmen with the highest scores, best stress shoot, best close quarter marksmanship, and perfect scores using the iron site and close combat optics.

Soldiers should bring their own magazines, Benjamin said, but they will be available at the event.

Families and Soldiers are welcome to come support the competitors on the days of the event.

Deadline for registration is Sept. 18 and slots are limited to the first 100 Soldiers who register. To register, contact the 1st Bn., 50th Inf. Regt. S3 office at 706-211-8130 or 706-544-8130.
