ANSBACH, Germany (Aug. 28, 2015) -- The U.S. Army Garrison Ansbach commander and several other garrison community members visited the Kerwa in Sachsen bei Ansbach Aug. 21.
A Kerwa -- or Kirchweih as it's known in non-dialectic German -- is a community event that celebrates the anniversary of the founding of the local church and the parish.
Col. Christopher M. Benson, the USAG Ansbach commander; Command Sgt. Maj. Osvaldo Martell, the 12th Combat Aviation Brigade command sergeant major; and others from the garrison and 12th CAB attended the festivities, which included raising the Kerwabaum, the tapping of the first keg, and the celebration that followed.
Bürgermeister Hilmar Müller and other local residents hosted the festivities.
