FORT BENNING, Ga., (July 22, 2015) -- It's a common situation. Your car just broke down and now you're stranded on the side of the road, possibly waiting hours for a tow service to come pick you up and overcharge you for their services. But, it doesn't have to be that way.

Ronald Hart, driver for DFMWR's Auto Skills Center wrecker service, is available to pick you up 24 hours a day, for a reasonable cost.

Typically, off post towing within the Columbus area is $55, said Allen Singleton, automotive instructor, DFMWR Auto Skills Center.

"I can assure you we are going to be cheaper than any tow service around. If you've called around at other places, it's $75 to $105, so we're considerably lower. That's a very good benefit for any Soldier, retiree or eligible patron," Singleton said.

Singleton describes Hart as "a super good guy" and said he encourages people to make him their first call if they need a towing service.

"We have comment cards and he receives many, many favorable comments about his courtesy and customer service excellence," Singleton said.

In the past three months, Hart has towed nearly 200 vehicles, and even given one Family, whose truck and trailer were broken down on I-85, a ride back to their home.

"The weather was turning bad, and they called me and I went over," Hart said.

The Family, a husband, wife, two children and a dog, was going to leave their trailer on the side of the road, but Hart was able to tow it, along with their truck.

Concerned for their safety on the side of the interstate, Hart told the wife and kids to take the dog and sit in the cab of his tow truck while he loaded their vehicles.

"So, the wife and two children went up there with the dog. Once we got done, we all got in the truck and I took his Family over to Patton Creek," Hart said.

"That's going above and beyond," Singleton said.

Hart has been driving the wrecker at Fort Benning for three months, but his experience goes far beyond that.

"I spent over 20 years driving tractor trailers," Hart said.

Singleton said that's probably why he does such a good job for Fort Benning.

"He's well experienced," Singleton said.

Hart said he likes his new job because, unlike his old one, it allows him to sleep in his bed every night. But more than that, he enjoys the people he gets to help.

"I like the customers, going out and helping Soldiers," he said. "Anytime they're broke down, they can call me."

Hart said he wants everybody at Fort Benning to know about the wrecker service, and that' he'll haul them wherever they're at to wherever they need to go.

"A lot of people think I only (tow at) Fort Benning, but I go all over the place," Hart said.

"He hauls 24-7. He'll take you to Pennsylvania if you want to go," Singleton said.

Hart just laughed and said, "I'm trying to get one to Hawaii."
