FORT LEE, Va. (June 25, 2015) -- Capt. Sharon F. Height, a Basic Officer Leadership Course instructor at the Army Logistics University, is one of 60 service members chosen as 2015 Tillman Scholars, a program of the Pat Tillman Foundation.

Height is a University of Alabama student in the executive doctoral program for higher education administration. The class will receive more than $1.7 million in scholarships for higher education.

A native of Clinton, N.C., she served in Afghanistan, which she said prepared her to manage the educational pursuits of diverse individuals through academic preparedness.

"I've learned that if your life is not committed to serving others, then it is not worth living," said Height.

Learning of Pat Tillman's legacy during her deployment inspired Height to set a personal goal of enacting global change through her career and education. Her plans include obtaining a leadership position with a college or university while continuing to serve as an academic mentor to junior and noncommissioned officers.

She took advice from her sister, "don't live life with regrets," and followed in her late father's and brother's footsteps and joined the service, ultimately making her realize "my service is the rent she pays for living."
