ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL, Ill. -- A Senior Executive Service leader, Patricia 'Trish' Huber, retired as the deputy to the commander, from the Joint Munitions Command Headquarters, during an official ceremony held here, May 20.
Brig. Gen. Kristin K. French, JMC commander, and Command Sgt. Maj. Walton Jones served as the official retirement ceremony hosts.
"This is a bittersweet day for all of us who respect and care about Trish from both professional and personal standpoints. We valued her advice and her guidance, her wit and her wisdom, and we will truly miss the wealth of knowledge she brings to the table when addressing solutions to the challenges facing the Joint Munitions Command," said French. "I have been very fortunate to have her as my deputy throughout my tenure at JMC."
Joint Munitions Command produces small-, medium- and large-caliber ammunition items for the Department of Defense. JMC is the logistics integrator for life-cycle management of ammunition and provides a global presence of technical support to U.S. combat units wherever they are stationed or deployed.
The SES is a position classification in the civil service of the United States government, which is the equivalent to a general officer in the United States Armed Forces. Huber was the first female SES candidate within the Joint Munitions Command.
Huber began her federal career in April 1983 with the United States Army Armament, Munitions and Chemical Command as an industrial engineer in the Industrial Readiness Directorate. From there, she worked as a Weapon System Matrix Manager, performing life cycle management, on major commodities.
'Throughout my career, I've said goodbye to many friends and mentors who have retired. Today, it's my turn to say goodbye. I have had a wonderful career and am so proud to have served my country alongside of you," said Huber in her farewell remarks. "Thank you for being part of this event and helping me celebrate my retirement."
Prior to her current assignment, Huber served as the Executive Director for Ammunition. She was responsible for providing joint conventional munitions acquisition and production support to the Program Executive Officer for Ammunition. She previously served in the same capacity as the JMC's Deputy for the Munitions and Logistics Readiness Center, in addition to a prior assignment at the Large-Caliber Ammunition Division.
Huber retires with more than 32 years of service in the federal government. She mentioned the pride of being a part of the JMC workforce, which ensured Warfighters had the ammunition they needed to perform their missions. "You should be so proud of yourselves," she added. "It's been a privilege to be a part of this organization."
During her remarks, Huber reminisced about the many opportunities and experiences during her career that included many trips throughout the United States and overseas. She thanked the many friends, family, co-workers and mentors that supported her. In particular, she wanted to thank her husband, Bob, who was "willing to make sacrifices for my happiness and success."
"Thank you, Bob, I couldn't have done half of what I have accomplished without your support," she concluded.
Huber earned a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Wisconsin. She is Level III certified in Systems Engineering and Program Management and Level II certified in Systems Planning Research Development and Engineering-Program Systems. She has been recognized with the Ordnance Order of Samuel Sharpe, Achievement Medal for Civilian Service, Commander's Award for Civilian Service, Meritorious Civilian Service Award and the NDIA Iowa-Illinois Chapter's Lawrence Skibbie Award for Lifetime Contributions to the National Defense.
A reception and dinner were held following the retirement ceremony at which family, friends, co-workers and fellow Department of Defense officials congratulated Mrs. Huber.
