ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL, Illinois -- A farewell ceremony was held for four Soldiers departing Army Contracting Command-Rock Island here on April 23. Two of the Soldiers --Master Sgt. Sol Nevarezberrios and Staff Sgt. James Boutchyard -- are going through a permanent change of station.

Nevarezberrios is leaving Army Contracting Command-Rock Island after serving as the senior enlisted contracting advisor for almost two years, to attend the Sergeant Major Academy, Fort Bliss, Texas.

During her time at ACC-RI, Nevarezberrios was instrumental in standing up the 920th contracting battalion, prior to the battalion commander's arrival. She was presented with the Meritorious Service Medal during the ceremony.

"It is impossible for us to explain what has to happen to stand up a unit from scratch, even a unit as small as ours," said Lt. Col. Ryan Eckmeier, 920th contracting battalion commander. "You set a baseline from which to adjust in order to get this battalion moving, and you know that the command sergeant major uses you as an example to all of his sergeants major around ACC. The processes that he has established and the best practices that are being used across ACC, you established those processes."

Col. John P. Hannon, ACC-RI military deputy director, noted that the sponsorship for every Soldier in the room came from Nevarezberrios.

"We don't want you to leave," said Hannon. "Unfortunately everyone's time comes, and yours is definitely for a good thing. Going to Sergeant Major Academy is a real testimony to not just your character and the type of Soldier you are, but what the Army sees in you and their confidence in you for the future. We know you are great here, and we know you can do even greater things."

Boutchyard is leaving ACC-RI after two years in order to serve as the first-ever 51C drill sergeant. During the ceremony, he was presented with the Army Commendation Medal.

"We just got you good at being a 51C and carrying on significant roles doing some lead things for some closeout issues, and then you [were selected] to be the first drill sergeant in the history of the 51C MOS," said Eckmeier.

In addition to Nevarezberrios and Boutchyard's departures, Maj. Desiree Dirige and Staff Sgt. Richard Dybdahl were recognized for deploying to Kuwait in order to support the transfer of the Contingency Contracting Administration Services mission from the 926th contracting battalion to the 920th contracting battalion.
