WASHINGTON (May 11, 2015) -- Linda Mathes, chief executive officer, American Red Cross -- National Capital Region, and Bette Cook, station chair, Fort Belvoir and Quantico Marine Corps Base, laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Arlington National Cemetery, Va.

Maj. Gen. Jeffrey S. Buchanan, Joint Force Headquarter-National Capital Region and the U.S. Army Military District of Washington commanding general and event host, escorted Mathes and Cook during the Army Full Honors Wreath Laying Ceremony.

Mathes is responsible for carrying out the mission of the American Red Cross regional communities in the District of Columbia; Virginia counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William; Maryland counties of Montgomery and Prince George's; and to support other communities across the country and around the world.

Cook currently leads 400 volunteers to provide services to the Armed Forces and their families. The volunteers coordinate outreach events to educate military members and their families about American Red Cross services. Her team works as doctors, nurses, therapists, comfort care givers, therapy dog visitors, administrative assistants and many other skilled positions.
