Medical Command and the Office of The Surgeon General received the first Lean Six
Sigma Excellence Award for direct reporting unit level organizational deployment from Secretary of the Army Pete Geren during a ceremony at the Pentagon Hall of Heroes.
The awards recognize outstanding organizational and project team efforts to employ Lean Six Sigma (LSS) methodologies and transform the Army's business processes.
"We are at a critical juncture in our Army's LSS deployment," said Lt. Gen. Robert E. Durbin, special assistant to the chief of staff of the Army for enterprise management. "The important step of institutionalizing Lean Six Sigma to achieve the enterprise-level deployment maturity requires building internal self sustainment capability. Recognizing the successful efforts of these process- improvement practitioners today demonstrates we are well on our way in achieving that internal institutional self sustainment capability."
Gaston "Randy" Randolph, director of strategy and innovation for MEDCOM Headquarters, attributes this recognition to "all the hard work by each of our major subordinate command LSS deployment directors and over 340 MEDCOM green belts, black belts, and master black belts leading LSS projects all over the world."
He emphasized the equal importance to MEDCOM's success of "LSS project sponsors, literally thousands of project team members, and leaders and supervisors at every organizational level who supported the boots-on-ground execution" of these performance improvement projects linked to the MEDCOM's Balanced Scorecard Strategic Objectives.
"Other important members of our MEDCOM LSS team are contract experts from the Accenture George Group and their Booz-Allen-Hamilton partners" who for the last eighteen months coached, mentored, and advised MEDCOM's LSS implementation, Randolph added.
