REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. -- Army Materiel Command welcomed its 45th deputy commanding general in a formal ceremony here, April 13.

Lt. Gen. Larry Wyche officially assumed the duties as AMC's second in command on April 10.

Wyche is no stranger to the materiel enterprise. He previously served as AMC's Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations and Logistics, from August 2010 to June 2012. In 2008, Wyche took command of the Joint Munitions and Lethality Life Cycle Management Command, a major subordinate command of AMC.

"He knows our mission; he knows our workforce and he knows our customer-- the Soldier," said Gen. Dennis L. Via, AMC Commanding General. "He is certainly the right person at the right time to keep AMC moving in the right direction."

Via described Wyche as a Soldier's Soldier noting that they are the reason behind everything he does in command.

Wyche said he was excited to be back and that it is an honor to assume the duties as deputy commanding general of Army Materiel Command. "There is no place I'd rather be right now than right here because this is the best logistics and sustainment organization in the world," Wyche said. "I am truly looking forward to serving you and serving with you."

As the new deputy commanding general Wyche will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the command including the Organic Industrial Base, Logistic Readiness Centers and major subordinate commands.

He will also serve as the senior commander for Redstone Arsenal where his responsibilities include overseeing base operations support, chairing the Installation Planning Board, and serving as the senior Installation representative in surrounding communities' activities and events.

In interviews outside of the ceremony, Wyche spoke a little more about the community.

"I'm amazed at the growth here," Wyche said. "The population increase, the business, as well as the quality of life have all grown. It's great to be able to call Huntsville and Redstone home again."

Wyche said that one of his first goals is to reconnect with the community.

"My goal is to strengthen that already established relationship with community and state leaders. I want to get out and find out what's on our community leaders' minds; what are their concerns; and what are their issues," said Wyche.

The new deputy said he is confident that that through partnership with the community, any problem can be solved.

"The community plays a major role in the health and climate of the arsenal," said Wyche. "The community understanding our workforce and what they do on a day-to-day basis only adds value to the community -- and that relationship is so important."
