FORT STEWART, Ga. - Soldiers of 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, or the Vanguard Brigade, of 3rd Infantry Division, moved under the darkness of night and conducted a combined air and ground assault to control a landing zone during a training exercise, Feb. 1, 2015, on Fort Stewart, Ga.
The coordinated attack included an air assault and ground assault convoy by infantrymen of 3rd Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 4th IBCT, and a two gun raid by artillerymen of 1st Battalion, 76th Field Artillery Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division Artillery. 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade, 3rd ID, provided UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters to provide air transport in support of the exercise. The assault marked the beginning of the battalion's situational exercise during Vanguard Focus, a three-month brigade level field training exercise designed to validate the brigade's combat capabilities and mission readiness to fight and win anywhere.
