ANSBACH, Germany (Jan. 23, 2015) -- Taxpayers at U.S. Army Garrison Ansbach have allies on post: During tax season -- late January through June -- Ansbach's Judge Advocate General offices provide free electronic tax filing assistance in tax centers at Katterbach and Illesheim.
The tax center at Katterbach Kaserne, Bldg. 5817, third floor, holds a soft opening Monday, and the tax center at Storck Barracks, Bldg. 6506, holds a soft opening Thursday; the grand opening at Katterbach takes place Feb. 4 at 9 a.m.
One benefit of the tax assistance program is free electronic filing. This free service allows Soldiers and their Families to electronically file their returns with the Internal Revenue Service, promoting faster and more accurate return processing and direct deposit of refunds into bank accounts.
During Fiscal Year 2014, the IRS-certified tax preparers at Ansbach saved Soldiers and other community members more than $264,700 in preparation fees and generated refunds in excess of $3.167 million.
Both tax centers are equipped to handle various tax issues, including foreign and real estate taxes. The tax centers will also prepare state tax returns.
To help speed the process, all filers should bring in all tax-related forms and information, such as W-2s, 1099s, interest statements, retirement statements, ID cards, social security cards for the entire Family and direct deposit information.
Taxes are prepared on a walk-in and appointment basis. No one will be turned away, but deploying Soldiers will always be given priority.
Filers who are using long forms or additional schedules or have more complicated tax issues are encouraged to make an appointment.
