FORT GORDON, Ga. -- The Eisenhower Army Medical Center (EAMC) Pharmacy is now able to receive electronic prescriptions from healthcare providers so that you can receive faster service when picking up your prescriptions and reduce the number of prescription errors caused by paper prescriptions.
The Military Health System (MHS) has deployed e-prescribing throughout the Department of Defense which uses a computer generated electronic prescription that is sent immediately to the pharmacy with no need to hand carry a paper copy of the prescription.
This allows civilian providers to send prescriptions safely, efficiently and securely using a private, secure, and closed network.
E-prescribing reduces prescription errors, and once adoption becomes more widespread, it will decrease wait-times even further at Fort Gordon.
"E-prescribing is becoming a common practice for civilian pharmacies; it allows pharmacists to read the prescription easier and faster than handwritten prescriptions," said Col. Keith A. Wagner, Director of the EAMC Pharmacy Department. "Our current pharmacy wait times are 30 minutes or less."
Beneficiaries at EAMC can ask their doctor to look for Fort Gordon in the e-prescribing database or networks.
"Currently, we can only receive medications that are not controlled substances. Controlled prescriptions will still need to be a hardy copy and carried to the pharmacy," said Wagner.
"We're glad to offer this new service for our patients at Eisenhower Army Medical Center Pharmacy," said Wagner.
