Fort Benning set to host sniper competition

FORT BENNING, Ga., (Oct. 8, 2014) -- The Fort Benning community will get an opportunity to see some of the best marksmen in the world, as the 2014 International Sniper Competition will be held on Fort Benning Oct. 20-24.

The event will see 36 two-man teams competing, including four international teams, four law enforcement teams, three Marine Corps teams and three National Guard teams.

The competition will begin Oct. 20 with a welcome brief by Infantry School Commandant Brig Gen. James Rainey.

Recommended spectator events over the course of the five-day competition include a pistol shoot from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 21 at Krilling Range, a positively identify movers event from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 22 at Maertens Ranger and a target interruption from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Oct. 23 at Burroughs Range.

The event will close with a 4 p.m. Oct. 24 ceremony at the National Infantry Museum that will include the dedication of the Sniper Memorial and the official awards presentation.
