FORT CARSON, Colo. -- The third annual Fort Carson Spouse Wellness Conference wrapped up with many happy, tired faces, the conference coordinator said.

"Overall we heard lots of positive comments from the participants," said Kristen Kea, Army Community Service Warrior Family Community Partnership manager. "They got a lot out of it."

Kea said many of the 81 attendees were first timers at the conference, held Sept. 17, 2014. Many participated after being encouraged by friends to try it out.

Kea said many spouses enjoyed the keynote address from author Polly Letofsky. Her book, "3MPH: The Adventure of One Woman's Walk Around the World," details her journey on foot from her home in Vail across four continents and 22 countries. In her address she talked about setting incremental goals to reach big feats.

"A lot of people thought her story was remarkable," Kea said, adding that Letofsky's discussion of having a positive attitude was a big takeaway for conference attendees.

"In adversity, sometimes you don't have a lot of options," Kea said. "The only thing you can control is your attitude."
