White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico-The 2nd Engineer Battalion, 573rd Clearance Company from White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico spent two weeks at McGregor Range, a Fort Bliss Training Complex (FBTC), earlier this month. The company tested their skills and proficiency at mounted and dismounted explosive hazard clearance, which includes the locating and neutralization of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and mines.

The training was facilitated by the 3rd Battalion, 364th Engineer Regiment, Task Force Rampant, 5th Armored Brigade, whose mission is to train Engineer units who will be deploying in support of the Global War on Terrorism. The two week training consisted of Fundamentals of Route Clearance (FORC), high intensity Situational Training Exercises (STX), and Culminating Training Events (CTE). This collective unit training allowed the company to put to use all the skills developed over the past year.

The training events were tough and realistic, with simulated hostile forces constantly engaging clearance patrols. In addition, Task Force Rampant, the host of the training, provided foreign language speaking civilians on the battlefield for 573rd personnel to interact with and protect.

The 573rd Clearance Company shined in its performance, demonstrating outstanding combat engineer skills and explosive threat neutralization.
