JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. - A promotion for the 7th Infantry Division deputy commanding general for support took place Aug. 15 at the Joint Base Lewis-McChord French Theater. Soldiers of 7th ID, guests and family gathered for the ceremony and to recognize Col. Paul Bontrager's promotion to brigadier general.

Brig. Gen. Paul Bontrager enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1982, serving his enlisted tour in the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky. He then attended Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tenn., where he received a Bachelor's of Science degree in Political Science and was commissioned as an Aviation Officer in 1989. He holds two Master's of Science Degrees, one in Education and one in Joint Campaign Planning and Strategy. Bontrager is a graduate of the Command and General Staff College and the Joint Advanced Warfighting School.
