CAMP HUMPHREYS -- As part of the U.S. Army Garrison Humphreys' ongoing Good Neighbor Program and substance abuse prevention initiatives, garrison leadership invited off-post business owners and service personnel to take part in a two hour ServeSafe? Alcohol Training Program, in Alaska Mining Company, July 14.
The training was specifically designed to help foster a safe off-post entertainment environment to strengthen the overall fitness and effectiveness of the Soldiers and civilians stationed here.
More than 25 local citizens -- servers, bartenders and owners/managers -- attended the session, designed specifically to prepare them to effectively identify high-risk behavior, in order to assist the Army in reducing and preventing alcohol-related misconduct involving U.S. military personnel residing in Area III.
Subjects such as "Our Role and Responsibilities," "How Alcohol Works," and the "USFK Drinking Age," were covered.
Yi Yun-sang, president of the Korea Foreigner Tourist Facility Association Pyeongtaek Chapter, said that the training session was helpful.
"As a bar/restaurant owner, I learned during the training that there are various points of view (regarding alcohol consumption) as well as the countermeasures for them," Yi said. "I feel it is my duty to educate my staff for safe alcohol service thru systematic trainings. Making sure that those being served are of age is very important to us. This training will help us when it comes to providing a healthy consumption culture."
Yi thanked the garrison for putting on the training and said his organization looks forward to more opportunities to share their experience and receive additional training.
