JOINT BASE MYER-HENDERSON HALL, Va. (June 25, 2014) -- Audience members from across the country joined their host Sgt. Maj. of the Army Ray Chandler in recognizing the service of all noncommissioned officers during the U.S. Army Military District of Washington's Twilight Tattoo, a high-energy military spectacular featuring Soldiers from the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard), and the U.S. Army Band "Pershing's Own."
Chandler, the Army's senior noncommissioned officer, serves as the Army Chief of Staff's personal adviser on all enlisted‐related matters, particularly in areas affecting Soldier training and quality of life. He devotes the majority of his time traveling throughout the Army observing training, and talking to Soldiers and their Families.
During the performance Chandler recognized veterans from World War II, Korea and Vietnam.
"Thanks to their service to this country and the sacrifices they and so many others made to ensure the future of our Nation, today's Army and its NCO Corps are recognized as the best in the world," said Chandler.
The non-commissioned officer is often referred to as the backbone of the armed services, and are the primary and most visible leaders to most military personnel.
Twilight Tattoo is produced by the U.S. Army Military District of Washington and is an hour-long, live-action military pageant that provides audiences from around the world a glimpse into American history through performances by the U.S. Army Blues, vocalists from the U.S. Army Band "Downrange," the Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps, and the U.S. Army Drill Team.
Twilight Tattoo is performed on Wednesday evenings; beginning at 7 p.m. Pre-ceremony entertainment begins at 6:45 p.m. Performances are scheduled for each Wednesday evening (except 4th of July week) until Aug. 20.
