SAVANNAH, Ga. (Sept. 25, 2008) -- The Savannah District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awarded a $288,538,000 contract to build the U.S. Army Forces Command and U.S. Army Reserve Command headquarters at Fort Bragg, N.C.
The FORSCOM and USARC contract was awarded to Hensel Phelps Construction Company out of Chantilly, Va., Sept. 20. The four-star headquarters is the cornerstone of the Army's 2005 Base Realignment and Closure, or BRAC ,project at Fort Bragg, officials said.
"This award adds a totally new dimension to the construction going on at Fort Bragg," said Col. Ed Kertis, commander of the Savannah District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the organization overseeing this project.
The FORSCOM and USARC headquarters will be relocating from Fort McPherson to a 700,000-square-foot single complex on Fort Bragg.
The contract includes the design and construction of the headquarters building and associated communications buildings. Interior design services, as well as furniture procurement and installation, are also included in the contract.
The facilities will include command suites, classified meeting and video-teleconferencing areas, classified and unclassified meeting rooms, an information network operations center, a theater, a law library, open office areas, manned entry control points and passenger elevators.
Construction will also include an energy plant with boilers, cooling towers, emergency power generation and load centers, fuel storage and a loading dock. Construction is due to be completed June 21, 2011.
