FORT BRAGG, N.C. - Noncommissioned officers and junior enlisted Soldiers assigned the United States Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School were honored for their achievements in this year's Noncommissioned officer and Soldier of the Year competition in a ceremony May 9.
The competition is a demanding and multifaceted four-day challenge for those individuals who aspire to set themselves apart from their peers. Each competitor was required to demonstrate their abilities in a wide range of skills that cover the core competencies of soldiering. Competitors conducted a physical fitness test, live fire weapons qualification, day and night land navigation, an exam of overall general subjects with a written essay, warrior task testing and concluded the competition with an oral board to demonstrate communication skills and general military knowledge.
"We have seven outstanding soldiers who did an outstanding job over the last week, said Command Sergeant Major Marc W. Eckard, the USAJFKSWCS Noncommissioned Officer Academy Commandant. "I'd like to take the opportunity to congratulate each of our competitors for their efforts and accomplishments during these rigorous events. What these competitors went through in the past four days were both mentally and physically challenging, your efforts are a true testament to the professionalism and dedication of what a soldier should be and again, congratulation."
The runners up of this year's competition received awards from the Special Forces Association, AAFES and the Special Warfare Center and School Retention.
