FORT GORDON, Ga. -- The Eisenhower Army Medical Center has recently become the second Emergency Medical Services training site in the U.S. Army to train 68W Combat Medics from the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) level to the new Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) level.

Currently all 68W Combat Medics are certified as Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technicians and the training site at Fort Gordon allows for the advanced training.

One of only two U.S. Army EMS training sites that can train to the specific level of certification, the Combat Medic Training Center at Eisenhower Army Medical Center annually trains over 700 soldiers and civilians in all components of the military.

?"The Combat Medic is such an essential part of the military healthcare team and should always be kept abreast of the newest training standards and technological advances in their field," said Melissa Wadford, 68W Course Coordinator at the Combat Medic Training Center.

The Combat Medic Training Center also offers courses such as the Paramedic Refresher Course which is designed for the non-special operations paramedic level.

In order to maintain their license, paramedics must complete 72 hours of continuing education every two years and the refresher course provides 48 of the hours to meet the requirement.

?"The instructors at Eisenhower take pride in training these soldiers to a higher level of healthcare and the training will improve patient care for military personnel and their families," said Wadford.

?"We encourage every Combat Medic and their respective units to take advantage of the training offered here on Fort Gordon so that they may stay prepared and ready for the mission ahead."
