FORT BENNING, Ga., (March 5, 2014) -- Hurry and get in your nominations for the Volunteer Recognition Ceremony, which will be held at 4:30 p.m. April 15 at Riverside.

The ceremony recognizes those in the Fort Benning community who volunteered more than 500 hours. Awards include Youth Volunteer of Excellence, Unit of Excellence, volunteer Family of the Year and Volunteer of the Year.

"Volunteers have been recognized annually for over ten years at Fort Benning," said Starla de Saussure, Fort Benning's Army volunteer corps program manager. "It is important to recognize volunteers for their contributions to helping accomplish their unit, agency or Family readiness group missions."

De Saussure said it challenges people to continue to volunteer, or to start making a difference.

"Volunteering, especially in areas where funding, manpower and leadership is needed and is essential in order for continued services to be provided to agencies such as having Family readiness group leaders and volunteers, coaches for Child and Youth Services Sports Division, or leaders for the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts or mentors for the young children our units partner with in the Partner in Education Program," she said.

To nominate someone, a Family or a group email de Saussure at starla.l.desaussure.mil@mail.mil or call 706-545-3016. The deadline is March 14.
