REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. -- One U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command employee finally chose to retire after more than four decades of service to the nation.

Dr. John Fairlamb, political military affairs advisor, retired during a ceremony at the command's Redstone Arsenal, Ala., headquarters Jan. 8.

During the ceremony, Fairlamb received the Meritorious Civilian Service Award, a certificate of appreciation, an American flag, and a certificate of retirement and pin. Between military and civilian service, Fairlamb had a total of 45 years.
