YONGSAN -- The 38th Parallel Healthcare Operational Training kicked off with opening remarks from the Commander, 65th Medical Brigade/MEDDAC-K, Col. Kelly A. Murray at the Dragon Hill Lodge, Yongsan, Korea, on 4 November.

The 38th Parallel Medical Society was formed in 1951 by a group of medical officers serving with the 3rd Infantry Division in Korea. The organization was formed to provide a forum to discuss current medical advances and medical-military issues unique to the Korean Peninsula.

The goal of this training is to maintain medical readiness in a unique operational environment on the Korean peninsula.

Participants include Korean military and civilian colleagues, distinguished visitors, and honored guests from United States Forces Korea, and the United States to provide training on operational medicine, humanitarian assistance during contingency operations, chemical and biological threat and treatment, and US-ROK operational plans in the peninsula.

This year's theme, "Operational Medicine in Korea", reflects tremendous responsibility of providing world-class health care to our Soldiers, Family Members, and Retirees for more than half a century in the strongest partnership in the world.

The 63rd 38th Parallel Healthcare Operational Training concluded its week long training on 8 November 2013
