FORT BRAGG, N.C. -- Two non-commissioned officers were named the best career counselors in the Army's largest command during a ceremony, here, at Marshall Hall, Sept. 25.

Staff Sgt. Jason C. Boyd, 3rd Battalion, 319th Airborne Field Artillery Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, XVIII Airborne Corps and Sgt. 1st Class Craig A. Nabors, Headquarters Support Company, Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion, XVIII Airborne Corps, were named the 2013 U.S. Army Forces Command (FORSCOM) Active and Reserve Component Career Counselors of the Year, respectively.

"What you do in your day-to-day jobs is to help our treasure -- our Soldiers -- define their goals and achieve those goals, and their hopes, dreams and aspirations," said Brig. Gen. Barrye L. Price, the FORSCOM deputy chief of staff, G1, and host of the ceremony. "You do a phenomenal work for our service, and these are some difficult times, and I thank you all for being great ambassadors for our Army."

The two-day competition, which began early Tuesday morning with the Army Physical Fitness Test, included a written examination and an individual appearance before a panel of Retention sergeants major from across the command where the seven competitors were grilled on professional knowledge.

For the candidates, who had qualified for the FORSCOM final by winning at corps and functional command competitions, this was also an opportunity to interact with the best of the best in their chosen specialty and take "best practices" back to their units, said Price.

"Share with others what your experience has been," Price said. "This just isn't about competition; it's an opportunity to interact with senior leaders and another opportunity to interact with folk just like you who are doing the same work as you."

The other competitors and major organizations they represented were:

•Sgt. 1st Class Todd D. Schultheiss, Headquarters, I Corps

•Staff Sgt. Sebern K. Huntsman, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, III Corps

•Sgt. 1st Class Christie R. Holloway, 48th Chemical Brigade, 20th Support Command

•Staff Sgt. Carol A. Edmisten, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, III Corps

•Staff Sgt. Nelia L. Chappell, , 159th Aviation Regiment, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault)

FORSCOM's top enlisted Soldier was also present at the ceremony and paid tribute to the assembled career counselors for having endured a series of challenges in making it to the finals.

"The fact that you non-commissioned officers -- from both components -- came forward to represent your organizations already makes you the cream of the crop," said Command Sgt. Maj. Christopher Greca. "Listen -- you're role models, and as we shape the Army and the active and reserve components, the Army of the future largely depends on men and women like you."

Nabors, a member of the Active Guard Reserve Program, and Boyd will now go on to represent FORSCOM at an Army-wide competition against winners from across the Continental United States and overseas.
