The 27th President of the United States (1909 - 1913) William Howard Taft was honored on his birthday, Sept. 15, with an Armed Forces Full Honor Wreath Laying Ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery.
The U.S. Army Military District of Washington Commanding General, Maj. Gen. Jeffrey S. Buchanan, representing the President of the United States, laid the wreath accompanied by military service members and the Deputy Director of Arlington National Cemetery, Jack Lechner.
During Taft's long government career, he served as Governor of the Philippines, Secretary of War, President of the United States and Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court. He is the only man in U.S. history to have been both President and Chief Justice.
He and his wife are buried in a Special Gravesite in Section 30 of Arlington National Cemetery. He was the first of only two Presidents to be buried in Arlington.
