ARLINGTON, Va. (Aug. 28, 2013) - - Scores of new Soldiers were sworn into the Army by the Chief of Army Reserve, Lt. Gen. Jeffrey W. Talley, during the final performance of the U.S. Army Military District of Washington's Twilight Tattoo inside Conmy Hall at Joint Base Myer - Henderson Hall.
The Army Reserve's mission is to provide trained, equipped, and ready Soldiers and cohesive units to meet the global requirements across the full spectrum of operations. Although it makes up only 20 percent of the Army's organized units, it still provides about half of the Army's combat support and a quarter of the Army's mobilization base expansion capability.
Talley presented the oath of enlistment to a number of new Soldiers from the northern Va. area, beginning their career at Twilight Tattoo, inspiring civilian and military audience members.
"I am ready to go, and enlisting during Twilight and seeing so much of the Army's history was great," said Adriejiena Owens, one of the newly enlisted Soldiers at the performance and from Alexandria Va. "I graduated college and just didn't want to sit behind a desk, so now I working in the Army as a 35 Mike."
A 35 Mike is a human intelligence collector and is responsible for providing other Soldiers with information about enemy force's strengths, weaknesses and potential battle areas.
"I am ready to go too," said Julian Jarvis, from Stafford, Va. "I joined to make myself a better person both physically and mentally."
Jarvis signed up as a 25 Bravo. He will be an information technology specialist and responsible for maintaining, processing and troubleshooting military computer systems/operations.
Twilight Tattoo is an hour-long military pageant featuring Soldiers from the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) and The U.S. Army Band "Pershing's Own" and is normally performed outdoors at JBM-HH.
Audiences experience a glimpse into American history through performances by the U.S. Army Blues, vocalists from the U.S. Army Band, the Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps, and the U.S. Army Drill Team.
