YONGSAN GARRISON, South Korea (July 26, 2013) -- Eighth Army established the 2503rd Digital Liaison Detachment to serve as the primary link with the Republic of Korea Ground Component Command.

During a ceremony here, July 25, Eighth Army Deputy Commanding General for Operations Maj. Gen. Walter M. Golden thanked the Soldiers who serve in the new detachment for the important role they will play in the alliance between the Republic of Korea, or ROK, and the U.S.

"The 2503rd Digital Liaison Detachment will further strengthen our ROK-U.S. Alliance and improve our fight tonight readiness," said Golden, a native of Salida, Colo.

The 2503rd Digital Liaison Detachment, or DLD, will be able to conduct 24-hour operations if necessary.

Golden said the detachment will strengthen the ROK-U.S. Alliance by providing support, assistance and advice to the ROK Ground Component Command on all aspects of U.S. Army warfighting forces.

"To maintain security on the Korean Peninsula and stability in Northeast Asia, Eighth Army and the ROK-U.S. Alliance must be ready for any conflict, crisis or contingency," said Golden. "This detachment will help us do exactly that. This detachment will make the strongest military alliance in the world even stronger."

Col. Tyrone Clifton is the commander of the newly established detachment, and Sgt. Maj. Harold Hunt is the detachment's senior enlisted advisor.

"I envision the 2503rd Digital Liaison Detachment to be the champion DLD to the Republic of Korea Ground Combatant Command and Eighth Army," said Clifton, a combat veteran and graduate of University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
