ELLWANGEN, Germany (July 18, 2013) -- Instead of instructing student drivers of the Bundeswehr on German roads, about 20 senior German noncommissioned officers switched their lanes of operations here for a day July 16 to compete and qualify for the U.S. Army's Rifle Qualification Badge.
"We really welcome this opportunity to fire the M16, to qualify for the badge with our American friends and partners. In particular, since we don't get the chance to conduct weapons qualification as often as we would like," said Capt. Roland Glatz, commander of the Kraftfahrausbildungszentrum (Heavy Vehicle Driver Training Center), at the Reinhardt-Kaserne.
"It it a great way to maintain our close relationship, while it is helping our German Bundeswehr partners to get more familiar with the various weapons systems we have," said Capt. Christopher M. Meserve, commander of Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment of U.S. Army Garrison Ansbach.
At the end of the day, 25 Bundeswehr and USAG Ansbach NCOs qualified with three marksman scores, 11 NCOs earned sharpshooter and 11 NCOs earned expert badge -- with Hauptfeldwebel (Master Sgt.) Christian Haas scoring a perfect 40.
