CRANE, Ind. -- Children of all ages are able to enjoy and learn on new, interactive, science and construction/engineering exhibits at the The WonderLab Museum of Science, Health and Technology in Bloomington, Ind., thanks to Crane Army Ammunition Activity.

Construction Junction: The Science of Building is one of the new exhibits at the interactive children's museum sponsored by Crane Army's Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics program. Crane Army also sponsored the MicroEYE microscope that projects the enlarged images onto a flat screen monitor. The exhibits are financed through Crane Army's STEM program that is funded by the National Defense Education Program.

According to WonderLab, the exhibition includes the Skyline Toolbox, developed and designed by Chicago Children's Museum, where children can use wooden struts and braces, fabric curtain walls and real construction tools to build imaginative, original structures big enough for them to walk inside. The exhibit also includes the Earthquake Shake Table, the Multilevel Building Zone, the Bridge the River Cantilever Challenge, and unique materials construction stations. Toddlers and preschoolers also have a special place to build with age-appropriate materials.

Karen Jepson-Innes, WonderLab's associate executive director, said,"Skyline Toolbox lets children practice critical STEM skills, outlined in Indiana's Science and Technology Standards, in order to become successful citizens of the constructed world. At Skyline Toolbox, children participate in the design process, learn to use materials and tools safely and employ the basic principles of the engineering design process in order to build their structures."

In addition to supporting the Monroe County-based children's museum, Crane Army Ammunition Activity has provided schools in the county with more than $49,000 to help with various educational programs in 2013.

Wonderlab is offering Construction Junction: The Science of Building June 4 through Sept. 29.

Established Oct. 1977, Crane Army Ammunition Activity maintains ordnance professionals and infrastructure in order to receive, store, ship, produce, renovate and demilitarize conventional ammunition, missiles and related components. The Army activity is a subordinate of the Joint Munitions Command and is located on Naval Support Activity Crane.
